NEOCRAFT COLLAGE TECHNIQUES: Istituto Marangoni London

In collaboration with Janet Sartor, Fashion Design and Research Lecturer at Istituto Marangoni London, a group of students with hearing disabilities from the State Center “Partenija Zografski” in Skopje took part in the interactive online workshop ‘NEOCRAFT COLLAGE TECHNIQUES’, gaining different perspectives and fresh ideas in their creative quest for knowledge and experiences.

The youngsters were challenged to modernize  traditional garments and cultural heritage through collage techniques. They combined personal pictures of family members dressed in traditional clothes, clippings of national costumes shown in Macedonian cinematography and photos of contemporary pieces from fashion magazines.

Using paper as a fabric, glue and scissors, textile leftovers and embroidery details, the students created real masterpieces, thus merging the old and the new. Each had a very unique and original vision on how to mix references and play with styles, while paying homage to our cultural heritage and tradition. The outcome will be incorporated into their capsule collection, which is due to be released in late spring.

The vocational fashion training within “RESPONSIBLE FUTURE: CRAFTING YOUTH EMPOWERMENT” aims to provide young adults with hearing loss a wide range of opportunities for personal and professional self-realization. The educational programme is supported by @obrazovanie_za_vrabotuvanje.
