On the process of preparations for the fulfillment of our project, “Agricultural residues as textile and design raw material in the municipality of Kochani,” we went through lectures with experienced scientific workers of the UKIM Agricultural Institute in Kočani.
Together with participants from “Ljupco Santov” school we attended the two lectures led by Research Assistant Ivo Mitrushev and Brankica Spaseva.
Ivo Mitrushev lectured on practicum/new life for rice biowaste. It included lessons on what kind of research can be conducted and their expectations, the use of rice straw fabric, rice bran as a raw material for wax, etc. We also discussed the potential of rice straw as a raw material for paper, packaging, thermal isolation materials, etc.
With Research Assistant Brankica Spaseva, we discussed topics such as the meaning of rice as a cereal, the world rice production and production in the country, the conditions for its cultivation, the type of rice in Macedonia, what kind of processing is needed for the rice husk and what are the by-products derived from rice applicated in various industries.
Through these lectures, we raised awareness about the potential of rice biowaste and the rice stages (from sowing to harvest), its use and the use of other materials of natural origin. How can rice straw and rice husk be utilized to avoid burning and other innovative ways to prevent wastewater pollution, rational use of renewable sources, natural isolation, etc.
