Extracting the natural cellulose fibers from rice straw can be spun into yarn. The project explores a new avenue for innovations in textile production materials – utilization of the potential of agricultural waste and residues as an alternative raw material for the production of textile fibers.
Circular from the outset. Biodegradable. Recycled.
Rice straw fiber reduces reliance on oil, providing a circular and biodegradable alternative to polyester.
This cutting-edge innovation offers strong potential to reduce the extensive burning of crops and its negative impacts on the environment and climate. The rice straw fiber explores a new avenue for innovations in textile production materials – utilization of the potential of agricultural waste and residues as an alternative raw material for the production of textile fibers. The product meets all of the criteria from the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles: by 2030 textile products placed on the EU market are long-lived and recyclable, made as much as possible out of recycled fibers, free of hazardous substances and produced in respect of social rights and the environment.
This entire initiative, ‘Agricultural Waste as Raw Textile and Design Material in the Municipality of Kocani and Vinica,’ is a joint effort led by the Macedonian Fashion Association, with generous support from @gef.sgp.mk.
